FAQ
Roofing questions, answered
The things homeowners actually ask us before booking work — what it costs, how long it takes, and when a repair is the better call.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. The roof inspection and the written estimate cost nothing and there is no obligation to book work. Estimates are valid for 30 days from the date they are issued.
What does a new roof cost?
It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how many layers are coming off, how complex the roofline is, the condition of the deck underneath, and the shingle you choose. Anyone who quotes you a firm price without seeing the roof is guessing. We inspect it, put the scope and price in writing, and that estimate holds for 30 days.
How do I know whether I need a repair or a full replacement?
As a rule of thumb: if the problem is one failed detail — a length of flashing, a cracked vent boot, shingles off after a windstorm — a repair is usually the right answer. If shingles are curling and losing granules across the whole roof, or the deck feels soft underfoot, you are into replacement territory. We will give you a straight recommendation after we have looked at it.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most straightforward residential asphalt shingle re-roofs take one to three working days. Size, pitch, the number of layers coming off, and complications like dormers and skylights all add time, and weather can move the schedule.
Are you insured?
Yes. SG Peak Roofing Inc. carries general liability insurance and WorkSafe BC coverage. That protects you if something goes wrong on your property, and it is worth asking any roofer you are considering for the same.
What areas do you serve?
All of British Columbia. Our crews are most often in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, and the Interior and Okanagan. If you are somewhere else in the province, call — we cover the rest of it too.
Do you work in the rain?
Some work, yes — this is BC, and waiting for a dry month is not realistic. Repairs and inspections often go ahead in light rain. We will not tear off a roof we cannot get safely closed again the same day, so replacement work gets scheduled around the weather and we will reschedule rather than risk opening up your house.
Do you handle insurance claims?
We can provide a written estimate along with photos of the damage that you can submit to your insurer. The claim itself is between you and your insurance company, and what they will cover is their decision.
What happens to the old roof and the mess?
The old roofing is hauled away as part of the job. We keep the site tidy as we go and run a magnet over the driveway and yard for nails before we leave.
What if I am not happy with the work?
Tell us within 48 hours of the work being finished and we will come back and put it right. That is set out in our Terms of Service — we would rather fix it than have you live with it.
Do you offer emergency repairs for an active leak?
Call us and tell us what you are seeing. Active leaks get handled as quickly as our schedule allows, and there is guidance on what to do in the first hour on our emergency roof repair page.
How soon can you start?
It depends on the season and how the schedule looks when you call — roofing is busiest through the dry months. We will give you a realistic window when we quote the job rather than promise a date we cannot hold.
Still deciding?
Each service page goes into more detail on what the work involves and what it looks like on your roof.
